Overview
Quiddler is a word card game card game. This guide uses a straightforward common ruleset and notes where versions often differ.
Objective
Create words from your letter cards and finish the series with the highest score.
What You Need
- Quiddler letter-card deck
- 1–8 player(s), as appropriate
- A clear table or playing area
Setup
Shuffle the Quiddler deck. The first round starts with a small hand and later rounds increase the number of cards according to the game’s sequence.

How to Play
- Draw one card from the deck or discard pile.
- Arrange your cards into valid words.
- Discard one card to end the turn.
- When a player goes out, other players normally get a final turn.
- Score words and subtract or account for unused cards according to the rules.
Scoring / Winning
Add the printed point values of cards used in valid words, apply any longest-word or most-words bonuses used by your edition, and account for unused cards. Highest total after the final round wins.
Worked Example
If your cards can form CAT and RIDE, lay them as separate valid words when going out, then total their printed card values.
Strategy Tips
- Keep flexible vowels and common consonants.
- Watch the discard pile for letters that complete likely words.
- Avoid carrying awkward high-value cards too long.
Common Mistakes
- Using a word not permitted by the agreed dictionary rules.
- Forgetting the changing hand size between rounds.
- Counting unused letters as if they were in valid words.
Variations & House Rules
Dictionary rules and bonus handling can differ by edition or house agreement.
